ARGYLE 4 - 1 OXFORD CITY
From the first whistle , Argyle were on the front foot, and were causing the visitors all sorts of problems as they attacked with pace and skill down both flanks, forcing a succession of corners.
In the second minute Carmen Thornton had a shot turned around a post from ten yards. The visiting keeper made four good saves in the first ten minutes to keep her side in the game.
At this point the Pilgrims were rampant and pinned Oxford into their own half. Despite creating several chances Argyle were unable to find the net , and Oxford began to get themselves into the game as mistakes began to creep into the home sides play and possession was given away too easily.
.From one attack midway through the half Oxford shocked the home team and took the lead when a hesitant defence failed to clear .
Thier lead lasted only seven minutes however . On thirty one minutes Tash Knapman cut in from the right wing and squared a ball for Leah Brooks to hit a right foot into the corner of the net from 15 yards .
Fourteen minutes on and Tash was at it again. She had been having much success down the right side , outpacing the full back at will, and this time found Becca Rose in a good position. Becks smashed the ball into the roof of the net for a 2 -1 interval lead .
The second period saw Argyle regaining the upper hand, and eleven minutes in Laura Gough increased the lead when she outpaced the defence to plant the ball past the advacing keeper.
Three minutes later and it was four . Her pace again got her away from the defender as she chased a ball over the top. Laura can usually be relied upon to finish situations of this kind and she finished confidently again.
Carmen Thornton, who passed a late fitness test to play, was replaced by Aoife Aherne , and Katie Middleton went into the back four.
.Argyle continued to look for more goals , and Brook ,Tash and Goughy all went close with efforts. Ellis Hillman who had worked tirelessly on the flanks gave way for Rachel Javan, and ten minutes from time Vicki Fannon took over from Brook in midfield . The remaining minutes were played ot without much further incident . Argyle were happy to take the three points,
and know that they can, as a unit and individually, play better .
They maintain their great start to the season, however , with three wins out of three !
After the game , Manager Rhys Sullivan said, " The three points are very welcome to maintain our position at the top of the table , but we must learn to cut out the errors and achieve more consistency ". He awarded player of the match to right back Hayley Stroud. Congratulations to her , well done .
